There are many areas of the Federal Government where it is a great place to work. The best places to work in government jobs are those that have made it onto a best list. Out of all the federal positions, there are a few that have been recognized as some of the most desirable for their employees.

In the race to attract and retain top talent, most agencies are looking to offer a flexible work environment, challenging work, rapid advancement and a great benefits package. Pay and bonuses aren’t usually all that in negotiations when it comes to determining what’s the best place to work in federal government. Here are some of the most common elements of federal job satisfaction.

The U.S. federal government has grown over the last several decades, especially in the past two with the Homeland Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security being formed. With the increased size of the government has come an increase in job opportunities, whether that be within the government itself or a government contractor. Given this growth, it can be hard to figure out which organization is going to be the best for you personally, because we all want to work where we feel like we’re doing good work and making money. That’s why I’m here to help you sort through all those organizations, agencies and departments and give you a list of places that are “best” for you even if you don’t know what’s available for you yet! These are places where I’ve heard great things about as an employee — from people who have worked there — but have not been able to personally experience working there myself (yet).

The following is an overview of some of the best places to work in federal government.

NASA: NASA is one of the most recognizable agencies in federal government, thanks to its many accomplishments over the years. It has been instrumental in developing new technologies and methods for space exploration, including sending astronauts into orbit around Earth and sending unmanned spacecraft beyond our solar system’s planets into deep space. NASA employees are responsible for making sure all those missions are successfully completed while also keeping an eye on long-term goals like colonizing Mars or finding another Earth-like planet.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH): This organization is responsible for conducting biomedical research through grants awarded by NIH institutes like National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Heart Lung & Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Eye Institute (NEI),

Introduction

Many federal agencies are improving their workplace conditions and we’ve got the numbers to prove it. In fact, more than half of all government agencies improved their scores on the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey in 2017. The survey asked federal workers questions about their levels of employee engagement, effectiveness, leadership and commitment to public service. While some large agencies made big improvements, smaller ones dominated the top 10 list above.

Joint Base Langley–Eustis is a joint base of the United States Air Force and United States Army located in Hampton, Virginia. It was established in 1918 as Langley Field, the airfield portion of the Quantico Marine Corps Base. It is named for aviation pioneers Samuel Pierpont Langley and Thomas Selfridge. Fort Carson is a United States Army installation located in El Paso County, Colorado, near the city of Colorado Springs. The 161,000-acre (647 km2) installation extends southward into Pueblo and Fremont counties. The post provides training areas for armored combat forces and infantry, and maintains state-of-the-art equipment to support their mission requirements. If you’re looking for a job that helps your family while being close to nature and living at one of the best bases in America, this could be it!

5. Joint Base San Antonio, Texas.

Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) is the largest military installation in the world. It’s home to three Air Force bases, two Army posts, and two Navy facilities.

Joint Base San Antonio also contains Camp Bullis Army Airfield and Fort Sam Houston Army Post, as well as Randolph Air Force Base and Lackland Air Force Base.

6. National Security Agency/Central Security Service, Fort Meade, Maryland.

The National Security Agency is the largest employer in the state of Maryland, and one of the largest employers in the federal government. The agency’s headquarters are located at Fort Meade, Maryland. It was established by Ronald Reagan in 1952 under a secret executive order signed by Harry Truman as part of a Cold War initiative to keep up with Soviet Union advancements in cryptography. Over 50 years later, it has evolved into one of America’s most important intelligence-gathering agencies with over 11,000 employees worldwide who serve in both military and civilian roles that include information technology professionals, analysts and linguists – just to name a few!

7. Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Kadena Air Base is the largest US Air Force installation in the Pacific. The base is located on Okinawa Island, Japan, which is home to around 1/3 of all US military forces stationed outside of the United States. Kadena Air Base has been an important hub for U.S. operations since it was established in 1955 and remains so today as part of a strategic partnership between Japan and America that includes mutual defense agreements and military cooperation agreements such as joint exercises, training exercises, humanitarian assistance missions (HAMs), disaster relief efforts, search and rescue operations (SARs).

Located in the Rhineland-Palatinate state of Germany, Ramstein Air Base is the largest American air base in Europe. It serves as the home of the 86th Airlift Wing. The primary mission of this wing is to provide rapid global mobility for America’s armed forces, including cargo and passengers traveling by land, sea or air throughout Europe, Africa and South Asia.

The 86th Airlift Wing also holds two additional missions: to provide command and control for all U.S.-based C-130 Hercules aircraft worldwide through its 8th Airlift Squadron; and to serve as an aerial port of embarkation for Army units deploying troops with heavy equipment via airlift from Iraq back to the United States at Fort Knox Kentucky (Kentucky has no army base).

9. Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and Branch Health Clinic Temecula Valley, California.

You may have heard of the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, which is located on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in San Diego. It’s one of the best places to work in federal government and has been ranked as such in recent years. The hospital itself has over 2,000 employees who serve more than 25,000 military, veterans and civilian family members each year.

You may not have heard of its branch health clinic: the Branch Health Clinic Temecula Valley (BHC). This location shares many similarities with its parent organization—it provides specialized care to Seabees and their families—but it also stands out due to its exceptional workplace culture and benefits package.

The BHC was recently ranked as one of the top 10 places to work in federal government by Govloop! And while that may seem like an impressive feat for a small clinic like this one, it’s nothing compared with what those who work there can tell you about just how great their jobs are!

10. Defense Finance and Accounting Service-Indianapolis Center, Indianapolis, Indiana.

If you’re looking for an environment that is committed to employee engagement and development, look no further than the Defense Finance and Accounting Service-Indianapolis Center.
