American Visa For Canadian Permanent Resident

If you are a Canadian citizen and have been living in Canada for the last two (2) years, than you can apply for an American Visa provided that your stay in Canada has been legal.  Note: If your stay in Canada was illegal, you should contact a Canadian Immigration Lawyer before you apply for an American Visa. Kindly contact us at (800) 497-1749 or email us at visacanada@gmail.com to get more information on the type of visa that will best suit your needs.

You have done it. You have fulfilled a life-long dream and become a Canadian permanent resident. But you did not immigrate to Canada for the climate (although, it is certainly nice.) You wanted to retire in this beautiful country after having spent time working abroad and sending some money back home to your family.

The options for Canadian residents to legally stay in the USA for an extended period of time are very limited. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (the “CIC”) does not allow Canadian residents to apply for a U.S. visa through their local Canadian Embassy/Consulate without first obtaining either Permanent Residence Status or an approved US Employer specific petition called an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) before entering the United States.

In Canada, the U.S. Government issues visas from its Embassy and six consulates located throughout the country. Canadians typically do not require visas to enter the United States, although there are some exceptions. Citizens of certain other countries also do not require entry visas to visit the United States. For more information, please visit the Visa Waiver section of the State Department website.

The purpose of your intended travel and other facts will determine what type of visa is required under U.S. immigration law. As a visa applicant, you will need to establish that you meet all requirements to receive the category of visa for which you are applying.  See our Directory of Visa Categories to determine which visa category might be appropriate for your purpose of travel to the United States.
