I’ve broken down my list into some family friendly destinations, water spots and a few offbeat ideas to help you get started.
Summer is here, and if you’re like me it’s time to start planning a summer vacation. I love visiting new places and Wisconsin is a state with a lot of great vacation locations that are fun for the whole family. There are also many interesting historical sites in Wisconsin, though as I’ve said before, history isn’t my forte. The nice thing about Wisconsin when you’re on vacation, is that there’s something for everyone. For example, if you’re into fast cars, there’s always an auto show or other racing event like the annual Badger Midget Nationals. If skiing is more your speed, Wisconsin has you covered with over 25 ski resorts spread throughout the state along with an abundance of snowmobile trails. But don’t forget to pack that bathing suit as well because there’s always somewhere to enjoy a day at lake or river as well.
The summer is the perfect time to get away from it all and relax with friends and family. Wisconsin has some of the best summer vacation spots in the country, so if you’re looking for a weekend trip or an extended staycation, you’ve come to the right place!

- Wisconsin Dells: The Dells is a great place for family vacations. There are water parks, museums, and other activities available for everyone. You can also enjoy scenic views of Lake Delton and its surrounding area.
- Door County Peninsula: Door County is an area with many small towns along the peninsula that make for great day trips or overnight stays. It’s also home to many wineries that offer tastings on site!
- Potawatomi State Park: This park offers many different activities including hiking trails, canoeing, swimming, fishing, picnicking and more! The park also has campsites available so you can stay overnight if desired (make sure to check availability before booking).
1. Milwaukee
If the buzz of city life appeals to you, then head over to Milwaukee. Wisconsin’s largest city, Milwaukee offers plenty in the way of museums, arts, dining, and shopping, while the eastern edge of town has beaches along the shore of Lake Michigan. Discovery World is a family-friendly destination that offers educational exhibits on science and the environment. One of the city’s more unusual offerings, the Harley-Davidson Museum, lets you view and even sit on different motorbikes.
Milwaukee has no shortage of delicious restaurants. Stop by AJ Bombers to experience their “P-Nuts, Burgers and Beer!” Grab an evening drink at 8900 Bar and Bistro, or order from its “Grab and Go” menu for food to take back to your vacation home for a relaxing evening indoors with friends and family.
