How Long Does It Take to Get a Hungarian Visa?

The processing time for a Hungary short-stay visa may take up to 15 days. This period may extend up to 30 days in specific situations, especially if you are visiting other Schengen members as well since some of them require a consultation before the issuance of the visa. Exceptional cases may take up to 60 days.

You are highly advised to apply for a Hungarian short-stay visa as soon as possible, in order to avoid any delay in the issuance of your visa. Please note that the earliest that you can file your application is three months before you travel to Hungary and the latest is 15 days.

How Long Can We Stay in Hungary Without a Visa?

The following will be able to enter Hungary without a visa:

  • Nationals of EU / EEA member countries can stay in Hungary for up to 90 days, within a 180-day period. If they wish to stay longer, they have to register at the relevant Hungarian authorities.
  • Passport holders of Hungary visa-exempt countries are allowed to remain in Hungary and the other Schengen countries for up to 90 days, within a six-month period.
    • Nationals of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of South Korea, and the United States of America that wish to stay longer in Hungary need to obtain a residence permit from the relevant Hungarian authorities, within three months of arrival in Hungary.
    • Nationals of the rest of the Hungary visa-exempt countries that wish to stay longer in Hungary will have to apply for a Hungary National visa for long stays from their country of residence.

Nationals of countries that still have not signed a visa-free agreement with Hungary and the other Schengen members must obtain a visa before heading to Hungary, or any other Schengen member country.

Can I Extend My Schengen Visa in Hungary?
