India and UAE agreed on a liberalized visa regime

Under the India-UAE comprehensive trade agreement signed last week, the two countries agreed to liberalise visa policies for Indians. The agreement includes a three-year visa for intra-corporate transferees and a 90-day visa for business visitors and contractual service suppliers. Business travellers will receive a 90-day visa, while contractual service suppliers would receive extendable 90-day visas.

Intra-corporate transfers will be eligible for three-year visas. The India-UAE Comprehensive, Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is the first bilateral trade agreement of India in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.

Saudi Arabia offering free visa renewal to expats from India

Expats from India and 16 other countries have been allowed to extend the validity of their residential permits including exit and entry visas and visit visas by The Directorate General of Passports (Jawazat) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The expats will not be required to pay any fee to avail these benefits. Expats from only India but also from countries like Egypt, Pakistan, Lebanon, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Eswatini, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe have been allowed to extend the validity of their visa permits.

Pilgrims coming from India will be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia directly as per the directives by the Government of Saudi Arabia from 1 December onwards. The pilgrims will not be required to spend a two-weeks long quarantine in the country.

UAE tourist visa services for Indian travellers resumed by VFS Global

With UAE announcing the reopening of its borders for travellers ahead of Expo 2020 trade fair, visa services provider VFS Global stated that it has resumed UAE tourist visa services for Indians. The trade fair is scheduled to commence on 1 October 2021. Travellers will be required to present a valid negative Covid-19 test certificate from an approved health service which uses the QR code system issued within 48 hours from the time of collecting the sample as well as Rapid PCR Test report conducted at the departure airport 6 hours prior to departure provided with a QR code system.

Indian travellers can apply for their visas online or at one of the service provider’s Dubai visa processing centres located in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram. These centres are currently operating on limited days of the week. It needs to be mentioned here that No General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) or Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) approval is required for tourists travelling to the UAE.

The United Arab Emirates Government has extended the ban on international flights from countries like India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh till 1 August 2021. This restriction is valid for all types of visas issued. Amidst the second wave of Coronavirus in India, all flights to Dubai from India were cancelled until further notice by UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority. The UAE has made certain exceptions for UAE nationals, “Golden visa” holders, and diplomats who can travel to the country with a PCT test report done within 48 hours of flight departure.
