Visa applicants who wish to study or work in Japan must submit the following documents:

A letter from the university/company stating that they are offering a scholarship or employment contract, as well as proof that they have sufficient funds to cover their expenses during their stay in Japan (cancelled bank cheque and/or bank statements); and
Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation).

Indian Visa In Japan

Indian citizens who wish to enter Japan must obtain a visa before entering the country. The Japanese government has eased visa restrictions for Indian nationals, allowing them to apply for a multiple-entry visa valid for up to five years. This type of visa allows Indian citizens to visit Japan as many times as they like within the validity period of the visa.

The application process is relatively simple, but it does take time. Applicants must complete an online form and gather all necessary documents, including a valid passport, photographs and letters of invitation from their host in Japan. Once these requirements are met, applicants will be required to submit their application at one of three designated Indian consulates: Tokyo, Osaka or Nagoya.

The New Japan e-Visa for Indian Citizens

There will soon be a new electronic visa (eVisa) for visits to Japan from India. The government of Japan has indicated that they will start rolling this out starting in 2020.

To apply for the Japan eVisa for Indian citizens, travelers will require a valid passport as well as some other supporting documents. No longer will applicants have to visit the Japanese embassy to obtain their application form and apply since the process will be entirely online.

Japan Tourist eVisa requirements from India

The application asks for some personal details, which should be entered exactly as they appear on the passport. The applicant must provide details about their trip, such as dates of travel, the purpose of travel, port of entry, and the travel company (ship or airline) with which the applicant is traveling. Japan Online Visa Requirements from India

Depending on the type of visa and the situation of the traveler, the application may require additional documents:

Students must include a parental consent form plus a bank certificate and a copy of parent’s tax return
Those traveling with a dependent must submit an official document proving the relationship. This can be either a marriage or a birth certificate
If traveling to Japan on an invitation from a business contact or family member, the person who invited them will need to submit a formal letter
Visitors traveling to Japan on business need to provide a copy of the business registration and their employment contract

Japan e-Visa Application from India

Before the eVisa is available, Indian travelers will have to download the forms and submit them to an Application Center in India.

The application form is available online as well as in person at the Embassy in New Delhi, or at the Japanese Consulate General locations in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, or Bengaluru. Of course, once the eVisa is made available, the applicant can go online to submit the Japanese travel visa application.

Advisory to the Indian Community on Fraud Phone Calls

The Embassy of India, Tokyo would like to draw the attention of Indian Community in Japan about fraudulent calls being received by members of the community, especially Indian students and professionals, from unscrupulous elements using the name of the Indian Embassy and spoofed telephone numbers. The callers generally speak English or Hindi.

The method adopted by the criminals is often as follows:

Calls originate from many numbers, including 0332622391. While this is the registered Embassy number, these callers have been able to spoof this Sometime calls have no caller ID i.e. show no number.
Most often, the fraudsters claim that the call recipient has provided wrong or incomplete information to the Japanese authorities (or the Indian Embassy), and that if they do not transfer ‘penalty’ money immediately, they would either be sent back to India, or be sent to jail. They are in possession of personal details (usually through open sources like social media platforms), which lends authenticity to their claims.
In some cases, they have now begun to ask for money so that their names could be included for consideration in the Vande Bharat Mission flights being organised by the Government of India.

The perpetrators aim to – and are able to – cause panic and urgency, and demand that the fine or penalty needs to be paid through Western Union money transfer/purchase I-tune Gift Cards, through credit/debit cards immediately or else deportation proceedings would be initiated.

It is requested that in the event of receiving such calls, the number from which call has originated, date and time of call, contact number on which call was received and nature of demand or threat may be furnished to the local Police as well as Embassy of India, Tokyo at sscons.tokyo@mea.gov.in and mincons.tokyo@mea.gov.in (in prescribed format below).
