The winter vacation is a period of time when we can rest, relax and spend time with our families or friends. This period of time also allows us to do activities that we enjoy and don’t have the opportunity to do during the other seasons of the year.
January 21 (Friday) Sukkot Ends
Sukkot is a harvest festival, and it is celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month in the Jewish calendar. It lasts seven days (or eight nights). Sukkot is one of the three pilgrimage festivals, or “High Holidays,” that occur each year. The other two are Passover and Shavuot; together they are called “The Three Pilgrimage Festivals.”
Note that this year Sukkot begins on September 23rd or 24th depending on where you live in Israel (since there are only 30 days in September).
January 22 (Saturday) School Closed – Fall Recess
Fall Recess is a week-long break that occurs during the fall semester, usually in late October or early November. This break is for students to go home and spend time with their families. Teachers plan activities for their students, who are also encouraged to play outdoors with friends. The following week (January 22) will be Winter Break, which will last until February 3rd.
February 14 (Monday) School Closed – Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar. It is a public holiday in China and celebrated by many ethnic Chinese people in other parts of the world.
Chinese New Year (春節) falls on February 14 this year, so the schools will be closed on that day.
March 2 (Wednesday) School Closed – Winter Recess
Winter Recess is a three-day holiday. It begins at the conclusion of the school day on March 2, 2023 and ends at the conclusion of the school day on March 5, 2023.

MEMORIAL DAY
Memorial Day is a federal holiday, observed on the last Monday in May. It’s a day to remember and honor those who died while serving in the military. It’s also an opportunity for Americans to show their gratitude for those who have served in the armed forces.
In 2018, Memorial Day falls on May 28th, which means that school will be closed for Memorial Day 2018.
June 24 (Friday) Eid al-Fitr Ends Late dismissal Friday schedule
Eid al-Fitr is the first day of the month of Shawwal, which is one of the four sacred months in which warfare is prohibited. It takes place on the 1st day of Shawwal. This year it begins on Friday, June 24th, and ends at sunset on Saturday, June 25th.
We will have a late dismissal schedule for all students who participate in Eid al-Fitr celebrations:
- Students who are not participating in Eid al-Fitr observances should be dismissed at their regular time (unless otherwise noted)
